Ohio Grade School Basketball and The Girls Basketball Association
One tournament in Cambridge, Ohio eleven years ago led to the creation of the Girls Basketball Association. (GBA) In that 11 years, the GBA has grown into the largest girls basketball association in the mid-west. We currently host tournaments all over Ohio, as well as West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
The goal of the GBA is to provide girls ages 9-17 the opportunity to work on their basketball skills in the spring and summer months. We pride ourselves in operating family-friendly tournaments. You have responded. We are overwhelmed each weekend with teams coming from several states, as well as Canada.
In 2003, we had over 100 teams playing in 25 tournaments over a nine-week period. We also hosted a year-end national tournament. There were over 5000 girls and 1300 teams from eight states and Canada that participated in our events in 2003.
In 2007, we saw the need for a Grade School Basketball Tournament for boys and girls. That year alone we had over 40 teams and it just keeps growing. In 2010 we had over 80 teams. Hopefully this year there will be even more.
Since 2003, GBA/Ohio Grade School Basketball has become a household name in basketball. We are now running tournaments every weekend in March, April, May, and June. Most weekends, we have over 170 teams playing in tournaments throughout Ohio, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania. The season culminates with a national tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio in June. This 4-day national tournament is fun for the whole family and includes a day at King’s Island amusement park.
It is my hope that if you have not had the opportunity to experience a GBA/Ohio Grade School Basketball Tournament weekend, 2012 is the year for you. The tournaments are the best run basketball tournaments in the Midwest. We hope to see you on the court in 2012!
